The tumbling process is used on an industrial scale for the removal of surface flaws caused by previous working processes and for the following polishing of the different materials surfaces.
The tumbling and the vibrofinishing processes are normally used for the polishing of plastic, metal alloys, precious metals and natural materials too.
In the context of the tumbling process of buttons, fashion accessories and costume jewelry in plastic materials (polyester, PMMA, cellulose acetate, plastic difined « bio »), resins and natural materials (dark or light horn, corozo), the optimal solution to guarantee a high quality finishing is to make « dry » the first step too, that is the grinding.
In the context of the tumbling process of cellulose acetate and injected plastic eyewear, the first step, defined grinding, has a basic importance in order to guarantee a perfect finishing of frames, temples and earpieces. It is indeed necessary to remove scratches derived from the previous treatments, like milling or mould deburring, avoiding to damage the surface and ensuring meanwhile a more or less marked rounding of the profile based on the several models.
